WHAT IS BMX?


"BMX" stands for Bicycle Motto X and is one of the fastest growing sports in Australia today. Organized BMX events around the country offer complete family participation as competitors of any age, male or female can become involved with BMX racing “if you can ride a bike, you’re going to enjoy BMX”.

Every BMX event offers a separate age class so riders can enjoy fair competition while allowing for all participating riders from the one family to participate on race days and practise. BMX is an all year round sport, that can be enjoyed during day time hours or at nights under lights. BMX is a individual action sport that comprising of a series of dirt jumps and berms (corners). As the gate drops eight competitors pedal as fast as possible while manuring their bikes over obstacles and berms safely to the finish line. There is no set standard design for BMX tracks in fact; every track is different in some way making each track a new challenge for riders. Each track must have eight lanes a starting gate, jumps and bermed turns to ensure that it's suitable to host BMX events.
BMX is an activity based on pedal powered bicycles which race over a track from 320 to 400 metres in length. It’s not noisy like mini bikes/motor bikes as BMX bikes are pedal powered; however it has a great deal of the excitement and spectacle just like motocross. The sport of BMX has structured organizations which range from local clubs to state associations and now BMX is an Olympic Sport Cycling Australia has brought BMX underneath there wing and now can provide Australian riders essential development for future Olympic Games and World Cups Series.








Isn’t BMX Racing Dangerous?

BMX is classified as a contact sport like football, hockey and soccer.
Statistics prove that BMX is one of the safest action sports available.
Riders must wear protective gear, and ride a safe bike that has been inspected by accredited officials to ensure that racing is as safe as possible for all competitors.

Is There a Class for me?

Yes! There is a class for every age group and skill level, from under 5 to 7 year’s participation classes (Sprocket Rockets), to 40 and over. Boys, Girls, Mums and Dads can all compete in their own age class and skill levels
